The Work of Compassion...
On this day after the election, it is difficult to find something even reasonable – let alone meaningful – to say today.
There will be serious repercussions for many, many people going forward. Now, it will be even more important for organizations and individuals to fight against regressive measures and work to mitigate the impacts of new policies.
Of course, heartbreak and fear can be overwhelming. But at some point, we each need to get up and recommit to helping the oppressed and to reducing suffering.
Today, each of us at One Step pledges to stay focused on having the biggest possible impact in the real world, working to change what we can, and not be distracted or disheartened by what we can’t alter at this time. As Senator Edward M. Kennedy said in 1980: “Circumstances may change, but the work of compassion must continue. For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on. The work continues, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream shall never die.”
